Reviving domestic food production and improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector will require a significant investment, Minster of Agricultural Development Jorge Arango said today.

He said that the government found an industry in "ruins" when he took office, and has called for at least $500 million a year over the next five years in government assistance to farmers to revitalize the industry.

"Our main goal is restoring confidence to the producers and assuring them that their goods will be purchased," he said.
